Biography

British pop-rock vocalist, songwriter and musician.

Born in Batley, Yorkshire, England on 19 January, 1949.

Died in Paris, France, from a heart attack on 26 September, 2003 at the age of 54.

Palmer moved to Lugano, Switzerland, in 1986 where he lived until his death.

He became a naturalized Swiss citizen in 1993.

  • His hit music video for "Addicted to Love" was memorable for its expressionless, slick-haired, identical-looking models who played as his back up band. A similar look was carried on through his videos for "Simply Irresistable" and "I Didnt Mean To Turn You On".
  • His first big break into the music business was a stint as lead singer for The Alan Bown Set in the late sixties.
  • Palmer won two Grammy Awards - 1986 Best Male Rock Vocalist ("Addicted To Love") & 1988 Best Male Rock Vocalist ("Simply Irresistible") - He also won MTVs Best Male Video Award for 1986 ("Addicted To Love") and was winner of the Rolling Stone Magazines 1990 Readers Poll for the category "Best Dressed Rock Star".
  • He is mentioned in Australian Crawls song "Beautiful People.".
  • Participated in live street concert performed for "Save the Rose Theatre" campaign, see also "The London Programme" {Saving the Rose Theatre} : number exceeds 106 acts on an media industry donated stage South bank, London. Considered as an irony of the songwriter due his prior divorce.
  • Was Senior Voice Tutor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) for almost 40 years, and worked with actors such as Kenneth Branagh and Stephen Mangan , and even helped Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to develop her lower vocal range.
