I just love it! Sad but so Beautiful movie.

A love story (actually two of them) play out amid the backdrop of the famous tulip mania of Amsterdam, ca 1634. Both love stories hinge on wild improbabilites that are almost laughable.

Countless reviewers will address this movie saying it was dismal and thin. They say the plots and subplots were disconnected and on loosely held together by a weak premise.

A love triangle during the tulip wars of the 1630s in Netherlands. Sophia Sandvoort (Alicia Vikander) is mother and wife to a wealthy man Cornelis (Christoph Waltz).

The film offers up only a boring love story, and vapid premise.

Yes, it's melodramatic, but isn't that what you sign up for when you watch a historical romance? Performances and sets were well-done.

Afrter reading about the main cast I was sure that is gonna be a good movie ,especially thanks to Vikander, as she is enormously talented. Also a love story based on historic period in 1600 , what more could I ask for?

Such beautiful locations and costumes, such wonderful actors, and yet the screenplay is full of common places. The script is very expository with a voice over that is completely unnecessary and explains way too much.
