Goofs

Throughout the entire movie, whenever there is a scene (and there are many) involving martinis, between shots the olives and level of vodka in the glass change.

This happens many time when a character either eats an olive or is about to eat one, it will re-appear in the glass seconds later.

Also - many times where the character is starting to say something, and the view is changed to be from their point of view and their lips are no longer moving.

Up until the end of the movie Angelina Jolie doesn't have her dragon tattoo on her left arm.

When all the couples meet for their parents to renew their vows you can then see that she has a red saran wrap heart on her left arm.

Although Joan's cat is called Blanche and is consistently referred to as "she", the actual animal is a male (tomcat).

Terrible artificial bad direction no s writing ability lots of big names huge failure.

When I was 18 I saw this movie for the first time, and was completely overwhelmed by the range of emotions this story made me feel. At the time I was a big x-file fan, but I thought Gillian Anderson should never play a different role any more than the kind she has in Playing by Heart, or should start an affair with Mulder.

When I first came across this movie I was somewhat unconvinced by the blurb given on the back of the DVD. However, I decided to give it a chance any way (mostly due to the excellent ensemble cast) and I found that I was completely surprised - this movie was positively charming !

I believe this is the third time I'm watching this movie - haven't seen it in years. If you like movies in the "multiple storyline" form of "Short Cuts" and "Magnolia", where lots of stories are told in parallel and finally meet, then you're gonna love this movie.

With such a star studded cast, one might expect better of Playing By Heart. It's not that it's bad.

Maybe it's the passage of time, but this film didn't gel at all. It was nice seeing the actors, decades younger, though.

Essentially a series of short films, "Playing By Heart" revolves around the love lives of a handful of wealthy, white, articulate, middle class men and women (blame Woody Allen), all of whom are connected in some way. Upon release, "Playing by Heart" was one of many "Short Cuts"/"Pulp Fiction"/John Sayles knock-offs.

It is based on a game, we all love to play in our lives and that is playing by heart. Through 12 different characters, director Willard Carrol told the story of love in the strain of modern relationships.

A dialog based drama about 11 different unrelated characters. A snapshot in their course of life is 'Playing by Heart'.
