Goofs

The bulk of the story takes place in the 1930's and the 1940's but all of the women's fashions and hairstyles are strictly 1955.

Pearl Harbor has been attacked (7 December 1941), and Washington D.

is in full wartime mode (early 1940's) when Mrs.

Marshall falls ill; bedridden for almost three years, she looks over a stack of checks that have gone to pay her medical bills; they are all dated March, April, and June 1937.

Peter Marshall's son, Peter John Marshall, was actually born on January 21, 1940, not December 7, 1941, as depicted in the film.

Reviews

This film came out in the author, Catherine Marshall's lifetime, and we have her comments on it. She was overall very pleased.

The rise of Peter Marshall, from modest Scottish upbringing, to New York seminary, time in Atlanta churches, his marriage, appointment as chaplain of the US Senate, and early death at 46. Based on real events.

It is a long time since I have seen an 'old' film that has seemed so relevant to the problems facing western society. I think that Richard Todd is excellent in the role of Peter Marshall.

As a biographical film, the viewer is called upon to consider their faith, their relationship with Jesus, and whom they choose to worship. Peter Marshall denied his will to be a captain at Sea to follow the will of God.

In the 50s theaters were losing patrons to TV and needed to find some way to draw customers back. One of the things they chose was making inspirational movies that appealed to church goers.

I have always liked the late Richard Todd as an actor, he was very watchable and had real charisma and integrity. However this movie is just about the dullest biopic I have ever seen.

Some of the reviewers here say it's a film made by Christians for Christians . This is entirely true .

A true gem. Ten times better than today's Chritian movies.

This movie made in 1955 I recorded off the AMC station last week. finally started watching it.
