Prior to acting career, was a running back in the National Football League. Played for the Green Bay Packers (1 game, 1959), Philadelphia Eagles (1960-1967), and Baltimore Colts.

Along with Gary Burghoff, G. Wood and Corey Fischer, he is one of only four actors to appear in both the original MASH movie and the subsequent spin-off series.

Tim Browns last NFL game was Super Bowl III when the New York Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16-7. His team-mate was Johnny Unitas who also was in the movie MASH.

He played for the victorious Philadelphia Eagles in the 1960 NFL championship game, and scored the final touchdown of the 1968 NFL championship game as the Baltimore Colts beat the Cleveland Browns 34-0.
