Reviews

I actually enjoyed this more than the 1986 musical. As much as I love Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, this 1960 production is brilliant.

THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was produced and directed by schlock uber-meister-burger Roger Corman. It chronicles the trials of poor Seymour Krelboyne (Jonathon Haze), and his interesting life in and around Mushnick's Florist Shop, where he works.

"Seymour Krelboyne" (Jonathan Haze) is a bumbling store clerk for a flower shop deep in the heart of skid row in Los Angeles. His boss, "Gravis Mushnick" (Mel Welles) finally gets tired of his incompetence and decides to fire him.

Jonathan Haze plays a clumsy young man named Seymour who works in a florist shop run by his cheap boss(played by Mel Welles) To everyone's surprise, Seymour grows an unusual plant that becomes quite popular, which he names Audrey, after his girlfriend. Sadly, Audrey the plant can only survive on blood, so Seymour reluctantly has to provide victims...

"The Little Shop of Horrors" is a low budget (almost no budget) film that doesn't fit the fright and terror of the horror genre. It's in a league of somewhat scary flicks that are funny as well.

The Little Shop of horrors isnt just technically impressive, being made in only 2 days on a $20k budget. But also is very effective comedically when it needs to be.

It is tempting to grade this film higher than it deserves given its place in the Corman canon and the fact that it's a precursor to a wonderful stage play and film musical. But it's a low-budget, offbeat, patched-together film the really shows its inferior production values.

(*Memorable movie-quote*) - "Feed me!!"If you are like me, then, you'll certainly be glad that "The Little Shop Of Horrors" only has a brief running time of just 73 minutes.

Gravis Mushnick is a cheapskate flower shop owner in a poor neighborhood. Seymour Krelboyne is a clumsy worker.
