The yucky pornographer JW Ties outdoes the competition in yuckiness with "The Family Way", a tender saga of incest in which the film director gets to play daddy. Yes, fans, you can see Mr.

Originated as an ITV Armchair Theatre presentation in 1961, subsequently extended into a stage play and then extended and opened up for this 1966 film. All good and it is well worth a watch if only for the splendid performance from the very pretty Hayley Mills and the solid performance by her dad as her father in law.

1966 was a busy year for writer Bill Naughton. In addition to Lewis Gilbert's 'Alfie' ( starring Michael Caine ), he also penned this wonderful, warm Boulting Brothers' comedy - based on his play 'All In Good Time' - a late addition to the cycle of 'kitchen sink' movies that began with 'Saturday Night & Sunday Morning' ( 1960 ).

A pithy if at times slightly unsubtle British comedy set in working class Bolton, Lancashire, the story concerns young newly-weds Hywel Bennett and Hayley Mills, the latter in her first adult role, whose marriage gets off to a faltering start with an unconsummated wedding night at his parents' house and then a cancelled honeymoon trip to Majorca. As it will in a small neighbourhood, news of Arthur and Jenny's "problem" leaks out via a network of nosey neighbours heaping more pressure on the young lad to do his duty so to speak, while in the background he also has to contend with a lack of support from his vulgar old dad, his better-looking younger brother chasing after Jenny and cheap derogatory remarks from his boorish boss at the cinema where he works as a projectionist.

Excellent and moving film. John Mills is a delight, and I would watch Marjorie Rhodes in anything.

Filmed in Bolton lancs a truly amazing rw5122686 didlidoodles "Hello, Privilege.

Having just watched this film again I was immediately reminded that it is indeed one of the best of the many 'kitchen sink' dramas of the 60's. Everything about it is real, including the Bolton locations and 1960's feel, even though it was beautifully shot in Eastman Color.

I remember back in the day the big buzz about The Family Way was it marked the adult film debut of Hayley Mills. After years of doing fresh scrubbed Disney productions, Hayley was going to do an adult role.

Handsome, naive young Hywel Bennett marries beautiful, naive young Hayley Mills and, for lack of any other place, they move into the spare room of Bennett's accommodating, working-class parents, John Mills and Marjorie Rhodes. It's all very cozy -- too cozy.
