Richard Crenna and Joanna Pettet("Night Gallery" veteran of similar material) lead a cast who portray a doctor and his staff, who have bought a secluded, and reputedly haunted mansion, who, despite their skepticism of the paranormal, are forced to confront it after Crenna foolishly unlocks the basement hatch, which unleashes an evil force bent on destroying them.Director Gus Trikonis creates an effectively spooky atmosphere, and good location filming, with some eerie scenes, but it goes wrong by the end when the evil is revealed to be...

Richard Cremna's acting style often consists of looking around like he has no idea how he got here and looking at people like he has no idea what they are talking about. It's not completely inappropriate here as some marginal actors fight their way through some mind numbing dialogue.

This 1978 horror film stars Richard Crenna and Joanna Pettet. Crenna (First Blood) plays C.

Though acted by seasoned thespians , 'the evil " is pure déjà vu the haunted house in which scientists investigate was already made in the sixties in Robert Wise 's classic "the haunting" (1963) , with special effects kept to the minimum here the actresses are left on their own to scream and shout "my God!my God !

Great movie effects for the late 70s, great story line that falls in line with house on haunted hill. For a few of the actors in this movie they have more years and experience I wish they did more exploration into the movie, night of the living dead came out ten years earlier and yet it more cuts and scenes.

"The Evil" (also known more appropriately as "House of Evil") is a very simple, relatively low-budge film that was shot in only 30 days. So, you'd expect it to be crap...
