Goofs

In one scene, the killer is drilling into the head of a victim at a bus stop with a cordless power drill.

In the next scene, he's running down the street with a cord dangling from his drill.

When the Driller Killer drills into a homeless man's head, he does not drill far enough to cause death, as evidenced by the depth of blood on the drill-bit.

While the Driller Killer prepares to drill a homeless man in the head, the homeless man continuously changes position between shots, in spite of sleeping soundly enough to not hear the Driller Killer revving his drill.

Reviews

I'd heard all the hype for years surrounding this movie, been banned, scary, video nasty etc etc...i'd never got round to watching it till last month as i saw it for £1 in discount media store so i thought why not?

This is a long review. The short version: "The Driller Killer" is not much of a horror film.

This is the first film of Abel Ferrara. is it the first work of an auteur ?.

Ferrara's first mainstream film is probably best known for getting mixed up in the Video Nasty controversy in the early 1980s in the UK. It was clearly financed and commercially released to cash in on the success of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but Driller Killer is rather more than another Toolbox Murders.

Yes, drills kill in this low budget early outing from self-starring Abel Ferrara, famously going on to "Ms. 45," "Bad Lieutenant", "King of New York" etc.

This 1979 horror film tells of a struggling artist, Reno (Abel Ferrara) who starts to go insane after he owes rent, bills and tries to finish a new art piece. He starts a killing spree with a power drill, but is also trying to hold onto his relationship with his girlfriend.

When I first watched this, I absolutely hated it. I still do to this day.

Artist and house-mates struggle to make ends meet, band move in downstairs, tensions running high, nonsense. Video nasty from the late Seventies which really hasn't stood the test of time with most of the cast becoming annoying very quickly and it just sort of goes round in circles.

I noticed that several reviewers gave "The Driller Killer" scores of 10 and with rave reviews. I just don't get it...
