One of Clint Eastwood's more personal projects is Honkytonk Man where he both gets to do some singing and also to work with his then adolescent son Kyle. Apparently Kyle Eastwood has inherited the musical part of the Eastwood genes because he makes his living now as a jazz musician.

Clint Eastwood has been known for playing macho tough guy roles in the late 60's and 70's. His roles ranged from playing a lone gunfighter in the spaghetti western trilogy directed by Sergio Leone, to playing the street-wise police detective Harry Callahan.

Its a road movie featuring an interesting boy character who learns the harsh realities of life. The movie's depiction of the depression is outstanding and the songs are good.

Aside from starring in this movie, Clint Eastwood directs and produces, "Honkytonk Man" a story of a mindless drifter in the Depression Era who travel to get a big break in music by traveling to Nashville with his nephew Whit (Kyle Eastwood) tagging along with him. Their hopes to get a big break by auditioning at the world famous Grand Ol' Opry.

By the time he started directing his own feature films in the early 1970s, Clint Eastwood had already established his trademark 'Man with No Name' screen persona. From his directorial debut onward, it's as if Eastwood used his ability to helm his own projects as a deliberate attempt to undermine the qualities that people knew him for.

Classic Eastwood.

I think I know what I'm doing wrong these days with films. With certain exceptions, I'm looking for a good time at the movies when many of the films that are produced lack so much of the quality that can be seen in the films that do not gain as much of a reputation.

"Honkytonk Man" is like a dust sandwich... it's like being sucker-punched by a theme-park cowboy in Pioneer Town and lying on the ground while he pours Luke-warm Dr.

Clint Eastwood's 'Honkytonk Man' remains one of his most underrated works. Critics had rejected it.
