When 1st Lt.

Milo Minderbinder explains to Cathcart his plans to trade blankets to the Italians for fresh eggs, he shows Cathcart an egg.

As the two walk along the landing strip, the egg disappears from Milo's hand.

When Major Major begins talking to Sgt Towser in his office about when others can see him, a portrait of 'Franklin D.

Roosevelt' (qv) can be seen hanging on the wall behind his desk.

Major Major then walks away from, then back to his desk twice more, and each time the portrait is seen, it has changed - from FDR to 'Winston Churchill (I)' (qv) to 'Joseph Stalin' (qv).

This was an inside joke, done intentionally by the filmmakers to further emphasize the dream like state of the film.

In the long-shot plane crash sequence as Milo and Cathcart walk along the runway the smoke trail from the plane that flew by extends far beyond the "crashed" plane.

When the "crashed" bomber "explodes" off-camera to the left the "blast" comes from behind the camera's right and causes Cathcart and Milo's hats to fly off their heads.

If you look closely Cathcart's hat flies off and out of the Jeep.

Milo's hat lands behind Cathcart.

They then pick up and put on hats from their laps.

The Baby Ruth bar rises up inside Danby's pocket as the planes take off.

When the chaplain is stopped by Milo on his way to talk with Cathcart his jacket is covered in light colored dirt spots.

They are gone when he arrives at the top of the stairs and starts talking to Orr.

When the camera view of the conversation between Nately and the old man in the whorehouse changes as Yossarian enters the room the old man's suspenders vanish.

During the mission to Ferrera, when Yossarian toggles his bombs early and causes the entire group to bomb the ocean, the top gun turret of Yossarian's B-25 is missing when the plane is seen in head-on process shots against a rear-screen projection of other planes in flight.

In the dream sequence where the nurse sheds her uniform and tosses it into the water, Yossarian swims up and grabs the uniform with his right hand, then sinks.

As he's sinking the uniform is now in his left hand.

These continuity "errors" show his unstable mental state.

Pianosa and Ferrara are depicted with inaccurate geography (see trivia).

Reviews

The screenwriters completely dropped the ball here. How does a 6-episode mini-series manage to include so much LESS of the grimly funny material from the book it was based on than the 1970 2-hour movie?

No where near as well cast as the 70's movie and despite being a ministries, misses out of many of the sub-plots necessary to tell the complete story.

This is well made, it has terrific music, and good cinematography it does allot really well from a production standpoint. This is clearly written, and directed through the lense of a mentally ill liberal.

I have never watched a film before that has encouraged me to read the book. It's a great film, so why not read the book.

After watching this film I'm not all that inclined to watch the more recent version that was released as a mini-series, though I might end up doing so in the future. The reason that I say this is because first of all I'm not all that sure if they can surpass this film, and secondly despite the fact that I thought this film was actually pretty good, and that Alan Arkin captured Yossarian to an absolute tea, it still doesn't come anywhere near as good as the book is.

You should enjoy this rendition. I never got around to reading the novel or seeing the original film and only knew of the basic premise when I began watching this version.

"Catch-22" is one of my favorite books. It's actually the only book that I enjoyed more the second time I read it (probably because I knew what the hell was going on).

Every time I start watching a series, be it a mini one or a multiple seasons one, I want certain things. Character driven stories is the one stands out.

Tone was ALL wrong. Funniest parts were left out.
