Claude Rains separated from wife Isabel Jeans three times, reuniting twice. He finally filed for divorce on grounds of adultery when she miscarried Gilbert Wakefield s baby. She admitted the adultery during the divorce and later married "Gilley" Wakefield.

She was the sister-in-law of Roger Livesey , who was married to her younger sister Ursula Jeans , and Maggie Livesey, who was married to her younger brother Desmond Jeans. The Liveseys were themselves siblings.
