Memorable for playing the role of "General Gogol" in the James Bond movies from The Spy Who Loved Me , right up to The Living Daylights . He previously appeared in From Russia with Love as SPECTRE henchman "Morzeny".

At one time owned the southern-most house in Europe

Chosen for the role of General Gogol in the James Bond movies of the 1970s and 80s because he was a look-alike of the former head of Soviet secret police, Lavrentiy Pavlovitch Beria.

In June 1967 it was reported that Walter and producer director Stan Strangeway had scripted and were planning to start filming Lydia, formerly known as The Sisters at Portmerion, North Wales in October under their new joint company Strago Films.
