Biography

Theodore Schaefer is a New York based filmmaker. His films juxtapose a quiet tonality with a strong visual language to tell simple stories that point to many of the strange truths in life. He is a graduate of Syracuse University and FAMU in Prague with a BFA in Film. He has worked for several years in New York City as a 1st Assistant Director for feature length films. He is the writer and director of the short film Potter's Field starring Academy Award Nominee Eric Roberts. His short film Singing to the Earth Until a Tree Grows, sponsored by SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, was released online for Earth Day, April 22nd 2015. He has recently begun a fruitful collaboration with poet and writer Patrick Lawler. Together they have produced several scripts, both short and feature length, including Singing to the Earth Until a Tree Grows and The Zeno Question, which is the recipient of the David Ross Fetzer Foundation for Emerging Artists equipment grant. Their feature screenplay The Life and Life of Gilbert Booth was named a featured finalist in the Bluecat Screenplay Contest.
