His wife, Monika, collects memorabilia of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (1837-1898). He has composed the music to "Elisabeth", a musical based on her life.
His musical, "Elisabeth" , is the most successful piece of Original German Musical Theatre, ever since "Die Dreigroschenoper" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill.
