Forged his birth certificate at the age of fifteen so he could join the Navy during WW2.
Used the money from his G.I. Bill to move to Los Angeles and begin his acting career. Due to the blacklist during the McCarthy Era he had to change his name from Sherwin Seltzer to Shepard Sanders.
