Sam Hamm is an American screenwriter, perhaps best known for writing the screenplay for Tim Burton's Batman and an unused screenplay for the sequel. As a result of his work, he was invited to write for the Batman comic. The result was Batman: Blind Justice, which introduced Bruce Wayne's mentor, Henri Ducard, who later appeared in Batman Begins. Hamm's other screen credits include Never Cry Wolf and Monkeybone. He also wrote unused drafts for Planet of the Apes and Watchmen adaptations.
While working on the screenplay for Batman , he was invited by comic book editor Denny ONeil to write the Batman comic. It was during this time that he created (with Denys Cowan ) the character of Ducard that went on to feature prominently in Batman Begins .
In 1989, Sam Hamm wrote a script for a proposed movie version of the 1985 graphic novel Watchmen. The script was never used, and a movie was made a full two decades later in 2009. The full script is easily found with a web search as of now.
