Biography

Although this lovely, light brown-haired leading lady would wind up better known as one of 'Loretta Young . Comfortably retired for many decades, Foster died of cancer in July of 1976. Sally herself succumbed to the disease two decades later on August 27, 1997. Cancer claimed sister Polly just months earlier and sister Loretta would die of ovarian cancer in 2000. Sally was survived by her two children, Robert and Gretchen. Sister Loretta's real name was Gretchen and Sally had named her daughter in honor of her.

She first met her husband Norman Foster while he was courting her sister Loretta Young. They reconnected in England in 1935 at a dinner party given by Colleen Moore. Sally had been working in England for about a year.

One of her biggest Hollywood disappointments was losing the role of Paul Muni s fiance Helen in I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) which was played by Helen Vinson.

Half-sister Georgiana Young , the youngest, married Ricardo Montalban.

She was a close friend of singer and actor Russ Columbo and was at his bedside when he died after a freak gun accident in 1934.

Mother of Robert Foster who, from 1975-78, played the role of Grimsley, the vampire-mortician horror host of "Fright Night With Grimsley," on Channels 9 (then KHJ-TV) and 5 in Los Angeles, CA.

One of four actress sisters, the others being Polly Ann Young , Georgiana Young and Loretta Young. Sally retired from the screen ca. 1939.

She, her elder sister [link=Polly Ann Young and her younger brother John R. Young all died in 1997.
