Runs with his father The Veterans Club in Pontycymmer. The club is a combination of a snooker club and a public bar.

During the 2002 Masters, he defeated Dave Harold, before losing 0-6 to Stephen Hendry.

Began his professional career by playing UK Tour in 1998.

Named Young Player of Distinction of the season 2000-2001 by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

His younger brother Rhys has played football for Manchester City.

Achieved the maximum of 147 during the 2014 Haining Open.

Won the WPBSA Challenge Tour in the 2001-2002 season.

As a prolific break-builder, he has compiled 240 century breaks during his career.

From 1 December 2015 his ranking is 18.

Due to problems with his liver in 2003, his results suffered badly.

Was a runner-up at the 2017 Grand Prix in Preston. Lost to Barry Hawkins 7-10 in the final.

Married his stepmothers sister, Lynsey, in the summer of 2008, who is 4 years older than him. The couple has 2 daughters - Francesca, born in 2006 and Lauren, in 2010.

On 25 June 2017 won his first ranking title after defeating Stephen Maguire 5-2 in final of Riga Masters.
