German art director, a 1911 graduate from the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin. He began work as a theatrical set designer. His talent was noticed by Paul Wegener , who hired him to design sculptural constructs for Der Golem . Gliese is also remembered for building the monumental sets for Die Finanzen des Groherzogs and for the magnificent set he created on the Fox Hills backlot for F.W. Murnau s classic film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans .

When F.W. Murnau went to the USA at the end of the 20s he followed him.

He was nominated for the Oscar for "Sunrise".

The director and art director Rochus Gliese was multitalent in the German film business. He studied at the State Museum for art and craft in Berlin.

Rochus Gliese was awarded the German Film Award for his lifes work in 1973.
