Robert Xavier Modica graduated from Adelphi College in 1957, a speech major. A popular student at Adelphi, he was co-president of his class of 1957 and active in sports; remembered as a football, soccer and lacrosse star. He was also a highly regarded performer in the theater and member of Gold Mask at the the Garden City, NY school.

His productions were often over the top - somehow there was always money from the PTA to finance a trip to Century Lighting Supply in Mahanttan to rent a truckload of equipment to supplement the stage lighting.
