Lt. Hite was the co-pilot of the last B-25 to leave the USS Hornet on the Doolittle Raid on Japan, Apr. 18, 1942. The crew bailed out over China but they were quickly captured by Japanese troops. Lt. Hite spent over three years in brutal conditions as a POW before his release at the end of the war.
