After hearing Ross song "Hustlin", rapper/Def Jam CEO Jay-Z signed him to a multi-million-dollar deal.

He has worked with DJs such as DJ Kroink, DJ 2Nen, DJ Smallz and DJ Ideal on mixtapes.

The title of his first album Port of Miami is a reference to Floridas cocaine distribution business, which Ross was involved in before he reached fame.

When he was younger, Ross formed rap group The Carol City Cartel and began rapping in the mid 90s.

He took his rap name from Los Angeles, California drug kingpin "Freeway" Rick Ross, who ran one of the largest crack-cocaine distribution networks in the United States of America during the 1980s and early 1990s.

He is signed to Slip-N-Slide Records, distributed under Def Jam Records.

His debut album is called Port of Miami and was released on August 8th, 2006 (U.S.). Since its release, the album has reached platinum status.

Sampled the song "Push It to the Limit" from the classic film Scarface for his single "Push It", which became a hit.

His musical inspirations are Ice Cube, The Notorious B.I.G. Trick Daddy and JT Money.

In August of 2007, he released an album titled Rise to Power, consisting of songs recorded before he signed with Def Jam. This album was released under Suave House, the record label which first discovered him.

He named his second studio album Trilla - a play on Michael Jacksons album, Thriller. At the end of its first week of release, Trilla debuted at #1 on The Billboard 200, selling 198,956 copies. It is his second consecutive #1 album.
