Married to English actress Barbara Leigh-Hunt since 1967.
Long and distinguished stage career. First professional appearance was in 1943. Worked extensively with the English Stage Company at the Royal Court in the 1950s, with the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1969, and at the National Theatre from 1987 though 1994.
He was awarded the CBE in the 1977 Queens New Years Honours List for his services to drama.
He studied drama at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England.
He died only 13 days after his Rasputin: The Mad Monk co-star Rene Asherson.
