Distinguished French leading actor, poet and playwright, noted for his wit and poise. The son of actors, he began on stage in 1920, appearing in occasional films by 1925. Brasseur first came to the fore in Marcel Carns Le quai des brumes and excelled as 19th century actor Frederick Lemaitre in Les enfants du paradis , also directed by Carn.
