Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and entertained troops performing on USO tours.
Was a jazz musician in the 1940s and 1950s before settling in California and finding acting work on film and TV. Later became a dialog coach and hosted a childrens variety series in New Orleans and Mobile during the 1960s.
A former vaudeville performer.
At the time of shooting Forbidden Zone , Richard Elfman and his crew were renting office space from him. The actor originally hired to play Flash disappeared during filming, and since Phil resembled him, he was brought in to play the character, according to Elfman on the Forbidden Zone DVD commentary.
Graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology at age 20 with a degree in Computer Science.
Finished 4th in the 2001 World Series of Poker.
