In the early 1960s when TV-western mania reached its peak, an American magazine sponsored a contest for the actors who portrayed western heroes and villains. Since the climactic moment of so many shows was the classic quick-draw shoot-out, the actors had to acquire that skill to play their scenes. The magazine held a competiton among some of the stars of the shows, firing blanks, aiming not at each other but downrange, and using an electronic timer. Quite a number of cowboy stars showed up to "slap leather." He beat them all and won the title of the fastest gun in Hollywood.

Traditionally a dark-haired heartthrob of early 1960s TV, he became a peroxide blond for one of the leading surfer roles in Ride the Wild Surf , co-starring Tab Hunter and Fabian.

His two adult sons are Matthew and Joshua.

Runs his own production company, Handshake Films, where he produced and narrated the instruction rodeo-styled video The Penning Tape .

Studying with such respected acting coaches as Jeff Corey , he was discovered pumping gas by none other than Jack L. Warner and handed a Warner Bros. contract.

He took the stage name Brown from his stepfather Albert "Bud" Brown. His biological father died when he was four. Peters initial inspiration in show business was his mother, Mina Reaume, a radio and stage actress.

Born in New York City but raised in Spokane, Washington where he graduated from North Central High School.

Stationed in Alaska as a member of the Armys 2nd Infantry Division, where he organized a theater group to put on shows for the men stationed there.

Until his death in March 2016, he was the last surviving main cast member of "Lawman" . John Russell passed away in January 1991 at age 70 and Peggie Castle in August 1973 at age 45.

One early morning in 2005, Peter was carjacked by an armed gunman as he went to work in LA. His car contained tens of thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment, and Pete politely asked the man to allow him to get a few things from the back. He refused and sped off. Pete promptly jumped into the carjackers previous car to follow him, but the car stalled within a block. Police were in hot pursuit, and the gunman was killed in a shootout just a few blocks from the carjacking site. Most of the sound equipment was, miraculously, unharmed.

Found out in 2006 that he had a long-lost half-brother, who is 19 years older, on his fathers side.
