(January 3, 2005) His eldest son Paul (aged 33), by his first wife Elizabeth Reynolds, died after a six-month battle against a serious illness at the Institute of Neurology in central London.

In 1999 his son, Pete Jr., (then aged 22) cheated death when he survived a karting accident, which left him badly burned and in a coma.

He was awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the order of the British Empire) in the 2005 Queens New Years Honours List for his services to Music.
