British heavy metal artist, born 4 June 1953, died of cancer 9 August 2002 in Norwich, England, UK. He was a main force in the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and finally went to Chicago for a year to learn Blues as part of The Richard Black Project.

Founder, guitarist and some-time lead singer for British hardrock/metal band Samson.

The late-70s/early 80s group named after him, featured singer Bruce Dickinson , later of Iron Maiden fame.

Recorded three Samson albums with Bruce Dickinson. Dickinson did lead vocals on the latter two, but was relegated to backing vocals on their debut while Samson did the lead vocals on his own.
