German actor and comedian, born 20 May 1896 in Bad Godesberg, Germany and died 13 August 1953 in Bonn, Germany.

Popular character comedian of German films in the 1930s and 40s, the son of a music teacher. Initially trained to be an architect. Studied acting under Louise Dumont in Dsseldorf. Had success on stage in "Charleys Aunt" and "Menschen im Hotel", as well as with Chaplin impersonations in cabaret. On screen sometimes in tragic-comic roles. His best-known performance was in the film Amphitryon (1935) , in which he played two distinctly different characters.
AfterWorld War II he earned his money with tours through Austrian cities before he was able to continue his film career in 1947.
