Biography

One of the finest background artists employed on creating the Looney Tunes & Merry Melodies cartoons for Warner Brothers began his career as a respected muralist in Southern California. A prodigy as an arts student, Julian graduated from the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute in Pasadena. After winning first prize at the California State Fair he began to exhibit paintings on maritime themes. However, his reputation rested on a series of murals under the Work Projects Administration, funded by the New Deal. In October 1939, Julian landed a job in Los Angeles as layout and background artist at 'Leon Schlesinger' .
