Daughter Michelle died in 1996 at age 29.

He got his start in theater. He appeared in summer stock in California, where he met his wife, Iris, also an actress. After moving to New York he acted in on-and off-Broadway plays.

Son, Jerry Corley , is a comedian. He also had a son Kevin, daughters Troy Corley and Christina Pratt and 12 grandchildren. A daughter, Michelle, died in 1996 at age 29.

According to his son, Chief Coroner Wally Nydorf on "Hill Street Blues" was Corleys favorite role. It even garnered him praise from Laurence Olivier , who personally phoned Corley to tell him that "thats the finest television acting I have ever witnessed".

He was nominated for a 1975 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Play for "Sweet Bird of Youth" at the Academy Festival Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.

Studied acting at the American Theatre Wing and under Uta Hagen.

Served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
