Biography

Nnamdi Asomugha . ACTS is an 18-month long mentorship program through which he personally takes a group of high-achieving high school students on an all-expenses paid trip to a city where they visit the local colleges and universities. Upon their return the students engage in leadership, civic and humanitarian activities, demonstrating that success is also found in giving back. OWIN was founded by Nnamdi's mother, Dr. Lilian Asomugha, and works to position widows and orphans in Africa, for economic success and independence through education, spiritual guidance and vocational training.

During the Philadelphia Eagles 2012 Season Nnamdi co-hosted ABC 6s post-game show, Eagles Football Frenzy.

Asomugha distributes backpacks to the incoming freshmen each year at Narbonne High School in Los Angeles. He also outfits the football and basketball team with shoes, a mandate he wrote into an endorsement contract he signed with Nike.

Nnamdi is the national ambassador for the NFL and United Way partnership, and is the head of the United Ways TEAM NFL, a task force comprised of one representative from each NFL team whose purpose is to recruit volunteer readers, mentors and tutors to help combat the High School dropout rate.

Since 2009, Nnamdi has been invited by former President Bill Clinton to speak annually at the Clinton Global Initiative University, to engage youth around commitment to education and community service.

Nnamdi introduced President Barack Obama at a fundraiser in Oakland during his 2012 Presidential Election Campaign.

In 2010, Asomugha was presented with the 44th annual Byron "Whizzer" White NFL Man of the Year, the NFL Players Associations (NFLPA) highest honor.

In June 2010, Asomugha was the first athlete presented with the Jefferson Award for Public Service, which honors volunteerism in America and is considered the Nobel Prize for community service.

In 2007 Nnamdi formed ACTS (Asomugha College Tour for Scholars) a college mentoring program, through which he annually takes a group of high-achieving high school students from under-served communities in Los Angeles, The Bay Area, and Philadelphia, on an all-expenses paid trip to a city where they visit local colleges and universities. The Tour has visited New York, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Chicago.

Nnamdi appeared on the cover of the Aug. 8, 2011 issue of Sports Illustrated after signing a 5-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
