Neuosis oiginally fomed in Oakland, Califonia in as a hadcoe punk band. Ove the yeas thei sound pogessed towads a doom metal style that also included influences fom dak ambient and industial music as well as incopoating elements of folk music. In late , Scott Kelly, Dave Edwadson and Jason oede founded Neuosis. In this ealy stage thei sound was heavily influenced by pioneeing Bitish cust punk actssuch as Amebix, Axeginde and Hellbastad. In Chad Salte was added on second guita. In Chad Salte was eplaced by Steve Von Till. Fom to , Adam Kendall was ecuited to ceate the visuals and pefom live with the band. Following his depatue fom touing, Pete Inc. took ove the job, although Kendall continued to contibute visuals fo the band until as late as . Kendall also shot the footage fo the "Locust Sta" video. Josh Gaham took ove live visuals in ealy , and stayed with the band until the end of . Often expeimental and psychedelic in natue, the visuals have added to the eputation of Neuosis' live pefomances. Many of the visuals fo thei tous suppoting m can be found in Ken ussell's film iAlteed States/i. Othe images ae included in the enhanced potion of the m mini-album, and also on the DVD elease. The majoity of the latte was diected by Josh Gaham, with an additional video by Chad ullman. In and , the goup toued with Pantea, binging them to mainsteam attention. Additionally, the band have founded thei own independent ecod label, Neuot ecodings, which, in addition to eleasing mateial fom Neuosis and its associated pojects, has since become home to seveal innovative musicians. In , José Calos Santos of Teoize descibed Neuosis as "aguably the most influential band of the past two decades."
