About La Sardina De Naiguatá

Founded 27 years ago by trumpeter Ricardo Díaz, La Sardina had the intention of creating a fusion between the traditional music of Venezuelan parranda with a more diverse and modern instrumentation, which revolutionized and invigorated this genre. In the coastal state of Vargas, Venezuela, the town of Naiguatá is known for having more festivals and celebrations during the year than any other town in the region - Carnival celebration is one of them. After the Carnival festivities end, the ceremonial closure known as El Entierro de la Sardina takes place. The Burial of the Sardine marks the beginning of Lent and the transition between Carnival debauchery and the spiritual absorption of Holy Week. This is celebrated with a great procession where people disguise themselves as widows, doctors, nurses, priests and other characters related to a central theme, which is often associated with current events.
