Goofs

When Yentl sings "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" her glasses are laid down in front of her.

They have modern temple and ear pieces.

In other scenes Yentl's glasses are the old-fashioned, wrap-around-the-ear-style glasses.

Anshel's suit coat is buttoned as if it were a woman's coat.

It's not a flipped shot; Avigdor is wearing a man's coat in the same frame.

At the end, on the boatload of emigrants (right before Yentl sings from the stern) it shows a young Jewish boy reading Hebrew and his finger is moving left to right as he reads instead of right to left as it should be.

Now that's it's possible and before it's too late can we digitaly (in 4K) add in Mandy Patinkin singing alone and with Babs to this already great film and take it over the top! Come on Ms Streisand you can't take it with you.

It's 1904 eastern Europe. Yentl Mendel (Barbra Streisand) lives alone with her father Rebbe Mendel who teaches her the Talmud despite the disapproval of traditions and the general society.

Streisand's directorial debut is a triumph. Everything works in this movie.

Utterly stunning to look at and to listen to. This is in a long line of films that will be appreciated more and more over time.

A brilliant, brilliant film by a wonderful actress/singer. I just love this film.

Rules are made to be broken. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something.

Saw this recently after watching Fiddler on the Roof and noticed some references in Yentl that were a nice touch/homage. But the one bad thing about this nearly perfect film is that renowned singer Mandy Patinkin was not given a single song to sing out of 12 sung by Babs.

I think Barbra Streisand is one of the most talented performers ever. Great singer, good actress, director, etc.

Given the year this is supposed to be set in. the leading lady was already late 30s or older when she got to make this film and on my 2nd viewing I struggled with the fact that clearly this is "Barbra" playing a young woman who looks just like Barbra in a Jewish Boys clothing.
