I thought that the story told might be to do with Chester therefore the story of a man under high pressure and what high pressure does to a human being how he sees things that are not there, his troubled not trusting mind due to his bad circumstances/ stress regarding his business and financial situation, impressing Colette, keeping them afloat. The film was telling a story about the psychology of being under life altering pressure and what it does to people's minds?

Really thrilling movie worth a watch ..don't think a direct remake but very reminiscent of the running man with Laurence Harvey and Lee Remmick .

In the end the problem is the story by Patricia Highsmith. The novel doesn't really have the energy to be a full novel.

A film for see for atmosphere and acting. Not the memorable one but decent constructed and giving the fair stories of greed, love and thriller.

Yeah, I didn't think much of this Patricia Highsmith novel adaptation, which feels like one of those films (such as THE TOURIST) which is all about the visuals - the locations, costumes, look of actors etc. - to the detriment of the rather predictable plotting.

Writer Hossein Amini makes his directorial debut adapting Patricia Highsmith's novel.Set in 1962.

Patricia Highsmith will always be remembered as the author of memorable thrillers such as THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY and STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, both transformed into equally noteworthy films at different points in time.

If you complain that they don't make them like they used to, then you will like this classic suspense film set in 1962, an adaptation of a Patricia Highsmith novel. A prosperous looking couple hires a slippery young man to be their tour guide during a visit to Greece.

Sophisticated and rich Chester (Viggo Mortensen) and his younger and gorgeous wife, Colette (Kirsten Dunst) are traversing Greece near Athens. We soon find out this is the result of the husband being on the run from folks he fleeced back in the US, without Colette's knowledge.
