When the monster first leaves the castle it pulls the lock right out of the door.

The Horror Of Frankenstein is a reboot of the Hammer Frankenstein movie The Curse Of Frankenstein and is the only one in the series not to star Peter Cushing. With this film, Hammer tried to appeal to a younger audience by amping up the gore, sexuality and black humor.

Victor Frankenstein murders his father and so inherits his title and money before dropping out of school to concentrate on his attempts to resurrect the dead.Ralph Bates plays the young Frankenstein who will do anything to pursue his experiments.

There's an awful lot going against 'Horror of Frankenstein'. In many ways Hammer was far ahead of it's time in that 'Horror of Frankenstein' must surely be one of the first examples of the dreaded reboot.

Not as good as Boris Karloff's Frankenstein this time with Darth Vader Dave prowse as the monster. A creature is made from body parts, certainly not an adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel but a good start a scientist creates a monster and it wrecks havoc on people in brutal killings like Dracula films you get the useal damsils in distress waiting for someone to save them.

... but I was mostly laughing at the film instead of with it.

This is for those who liked 'The Evil of Frankenstein' (usually reviled by aficionados of Hammer horror), with production values up to Hammer's usual high standard, an interesting cast (including Denis Price's first stint in a Hammer film since 'Watch It, Sailor!' in 1961, early appearances by Ralph Bates and Kate O'Mara and the final screen appearance by Joan Rice), music by future Master of the Queen's Music, Malcolm Williamson and a cute ending!

There seems to be a love or hate attitude to this film and I'm in the former camp and enjoyed it. The plot may not be that original buy is has a streak of ghoulish humour that is entertaining, right down to the last ironic moment that makes way for a sequel that never happened.

We start in school as a young Victor Frankenstein (Ralph Bates) is bored and decides looking at anatomy sketches would be more fun at which his teacher (Neil Wilson) is offended by. Arriving home at his Castle, Victor finds his Father, Baron Frankenstein (George Belbin) has just had sex with the 16(!

A poor attempt by Hammer to inject fresh blood into their Frankenstein franchise, this is a darkly comic remake of the 1957 Curse Of Frankenstein directed by Jimmy Sangster, screenwriter of most of the classic 50s Hammer horrors. Ralph Bates was drafted in to substitute for Peter Cushing as Victor Frankenstein, he murders his own father so he can continue his experiments to reanimate the dead in the family castle, whilst the sexy Kate O'Mara keeps his bed warm.
