Reviews

This slow-paced western is moving but not really gripping if not for the good actors. It evolves around the figure of a very demanding, fussy and religious woman, that is also really sweet, pragmatic and able, and of a "living the day" man who, after all, is unable to completely redeem himself.

A mish mosh of scenes. Acting good scenery good.

Although a beautiful, finely made film, this is also the saddest Western I've ever seen, tragic to the point of heartbreak. This makes sense since it takes an unflinching look at the real frontier experience and is definitely not some Hollywood fantasy.

After watching the haunting 2014 Nordic Western The Salvation,I started looking online for other Westerns from the 2010's.With having found his performance in the 2003 Western The Missing to be very memorable,I was pleased to find co-writer/(along with Kieran Fitzgerald & Wesley A.

How many different ways is there to say the same thing? Yes, life was tough for women in the old West, but it wasn't all smiles and sunshine for men either.

A near miss. A lot of first rate actors whose talents are wasted here.

The Homesman is directed by Tommy Lee Jones, who also co-adapts the screenplay from Glendon Swarthout's novel with Kieran Fitzgerald and Wesley A. Oliver.

I'm not at all surprised that "The Homesman" slipped through the cracks, as it defies categorization and may just be one of the least commercially bankable films I've ever seen. But it's a surprisingly good little movie and one that deserves an audience.

Actors with chops and a thoroughly engaging situation. Hillary Swank is without peer in today's cinematic world.
