By this point, the Charlie Chan series seemed to be going on autopilot: neither the director nor the cast (save maybe for Mantan Moreland) were showing much enthusiasm for the proceedings. In "Golden Eye", about half of the "action" takes place inside a mine, which makes the film look even cheaper and more underlit than usual.

One of the better outings for Roland Winters as our unflappable Oriental sleuth. This time he has to fathom a mysterious conspiracy that has turned a loss-making hole in the ground into a worryingly profitable mine - and the owner feels certain that he is about to get his comeuppance.

Charlie Chan heads to Arizona to investigate a gold mine mystery. A typically cheap Monogram movie starring Roland Winters, the worst of all Charlie Chans.

This is a VERY unusual entry in the 'Charlie Chan' series: it starts, like most of the movies starring Roland Winters, in a clearly 'Noirish' atmosphere, with a man being mysteriously followed through the dark streets of Chinatown and a little later being shot at through the window in a shop - whose owner is Charlie's cousin, and the man called Manning came here to ask Charlie for help: in the past months, there have been made several attempts at his life. Manning's a rancher from Arizona, and he owns the 'Golden Eye' mine, which has been producing quite a lot of gold lately.

Instead of taking precautions to aid a man who is in grave danger, Charlie again waits to do anything. He is approached by an old friend who says that someone is trying to kill him.

This is one of the last of the Monogram series of Charlie Chan films. By 1948, the series had been around for many years--since the late 1920s.

Charlie Chan (Roland Winters) finds himself in the Wild West and is soon caught up in a plot of murder and theft involving gold in an abandoned old mining town. One of the poor later Charlie Chan entries that adds little to the series including a greater reliance on Charlie's sidekicks in number two son (Victor Sen Yung) and his scaredy black chauffeur (Mantan Moreland).

Oriental sleuth Charlie Chan(Roland Winters), Tommy Chan(Victor Sen Young)and chauffeur Birmingham(Mantan Moreland)head to Arizona at the request of a Mr. Manning(Forrest Taylor), owner of The Golden Eye mine.

The story is set mostly in Arizona near an old gold mine. The owner is being threatened and wants Chan's help.
