Goofs

In the final scene, there is a sticker on the "City Law School" door that reads "Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey".

Mike enters the Troopers card game wearing a jacket, is thrown out of the game without it, and is shown later wearing the jacket again.

But you can (barely) hear the jacket get thrown onto the ground after him.

When Worm and Mike go over to Gramma's place, Worm is chewing a cocktail stick the whole time which he throws away when he begins to yell at Gramma.

Gramma promptly grabs him by the collar and the cocktail stick is back in his mouth again.

In the Turkish/Russian bathhouse, Mike is seen leaning against the wall from one camera angle, but from another camera angle his hands are at his sides.

New York State Police cars are shown with blue and red lights on their roofs, but in New York, the State Police use only red lights.

The baseball cap jumps on and off the bed when Mike is talking to his girlfriend after the judges' game.

The card player sitting across from Worm in jail removes a cigarette from his ear twice.

As Mike talks to the professor in the bar about Mike missing the meeting, the professor's cigarette swaps hands repeatedly between shots.

A reflection of a sound man can be clearly seen from the side of the car as Worm gets out to meet Mike and his supposed girlfriend.

In the first part of the final poker game between KGB and Mike, when KGB has just reraised $5000, Mike starts pushing all his chips forward to go all in, the shot is taken from behind KGB and you can see KGB's left hand touching his face.

The next shot from the opposite direction (when you see the continuation of Mike pushing his chips forward) KGB's hand is down on the table.

When Worm is waiting for Mike outside Mike's apartment, stickers on the window say "NO ENUS" with both words centered.

"ENUS" should have been shifted to the right, as the original word "MENUS" would probably have been centered when the letters were originally applied.

When Worm approaches Mike at the Taj Mahal poker room and sits down the dealer is "washing" the deck.

(Placing all the cards face down and mixing them up before shuffling.

) As the camera goes from behind Worm to behind the dealer, the cards go from "washing" to shuffling as the camera angles change.

Mike goes to a check cashing place with a personal check for $10,000 from his professor.

Check cashing businesses never cash personal checks on the same day; they require a 3-5 day waiting period so the check can clear.

And even if it was a payroll check, the business would have taken a percentage to cash it, so Mike would not have had the full $10,000 to bring to the game.

The filmmakers have stated (in interview with ESPN.

Com's Bill Simmons) that the cash checking location is run by a friend of his professor's, but the scene was cut to bring the film's running time down.

The State Trooper cars shown in the parking lot are the wrong make.

NY State Troopers use Ford cars/trucks exclusively, not Caprice Classics.

Reviews

The Plot: Academy Award Matt Damon (The Bourne Movies) and Edward Norton (Incredible Hulk) star in this story of passion, risk and the extreme price of friendship! After losing a high-stakes card game, Mike (Damon) gives up gambling for law school and a fresh start with his girlfriend (Gretchen Mol - Cradle Will Rock).

This film has a very small target audience. The film is boring as fudge for anyone with zero interest in poker.

Rounders. What an incredibly well-rounded movie!

A young law school student (Matt Damon) is a reformed gambler who must return to playing big stakes poker to help a friend (Edward Norton) pay off loan sharks. If there is a weak spot in this movie, it is John Malkovich.

What else could you ask for? It checks off all the boxes.

I didn't know such a thing as the World Series of Poker existed until around '04 or '05. Silly me.

English below.Das Zentrum des Films, nämlich die Pokerspiele, waren nicht spannend, da sie nicht zufällig waren.

I remember back in the 1990s when Texas Hold 'Em Poker reached its pinnacle of popularity. I was even sucked into watching some matches on TV because I was fascinated by the way the professionals could manipulate a table of opponents and win big.

This isn't just a movie about poker, it's a story about a man who balances the best aspects of his life, making sure they won't collapse on him. Like me, some of you will read the title "Poker" and think that it couldn't possibly relate to you because you could care less about tossing chips and flipping cards, but whether or not you like poker, you'll love a story about a person just like you trying to stay afloat in this world, period.
