There's probably a good reason it was direct-to-DVD. It was TERRIBLE.

Re-watching this in 2018 it still holds up as good imaginative storytelling with a loveable hero and maniacal villain.French Stuart is a wonderful Gadget and gives the role more justice than Broderick in the original.
Disney today has gone through multiple changes throughout its history. There's the classical period, the slump period, the renaissance period and the rise to super studio power in the late 2000s.
Though it follows the show more than the first one it's still pretty bad. It has what you'd expect in a bad kids movie.
