Goofs

There are many moments throughout the film where the shadows of the camera equipment can be seen.

When parking because of traffic, the car carrying Peter Lawford and Eva Marie Saint, bumps into another parked car.

When Peter Lawford gets out of the car, the car is seen parked with some space in between.

When the crowd sings "Hatikvah" after Barak announces the UN vote to partition Palestine, which takes place in 1947, they sing the new lyrics which were rewritten after Israel became independent in May 1948.

- PLOTGeneral Sutherland tells Kitty that Tom should not have gone on what became his fatal photojournalist assignment because it was a minor border incident where Jews blow up some bridges.

Kitty shows the General the last photo taken by Tom of a fighter strafing the truck the General and Tom were riding in taken by Tom from an obviously dangerous vantage point.

The Jews had no fighter aircraft.

Shortly before escaping from prison, two of the main characters are playing a game of chess.

The chessboard is set up the wrong way, as is clearly seen when the guard takes it away.

Each player should have a white square on his right hand, not a black one.

The film repeats a historical error contained in the original novel, when Karen tells Dov about how King Christian of Denmark publicly wore a yellow Star of David in defiance of a Nazi order that all Danish Jews do so.

In fact this incident never occurred - Danish Jews were never ordered to wear the yellow star.

After the prison break, Paul Newman's character and his uncle are both shot as the car escapes the road block.

When the car drives off the road into the underbrush, there are no bullet holes in the trunk or the rear window.

When Paul Newman gets out of the car, his head hits the corner of the door and he touches his forehead.

The passenger, Eva Marie Saint, hardly held from laughing.

The German SS at Auschwitz executed all the Sonderkommandos and selected a new crew 13 times, hence only the last 14th survived.

No Jew, therefore, could have had the experience of exploding dynamite to create mass grave.

As this process well predated the installation of the crematorium, his Sonderkommando unit would have been liquidated long before liberation.

Reviews

60 years later this is revealed as expensive propaganda for the support of a state that learned its lessons of oppression first hand as demonstrated in the film. The British are shown teaching the primer to be implemented in the state's subsequent treatment of its Arab residents.

The time perspective is interesting here. The film was made only 12 years after the independence in 1948, but although the film is 56 years old it's still both very modern and relevant - the situation hasn't changed much, rather has it worsened and intensified during all these years.

It's almost impossible, I find, not to bracket this movie along with Kubrick's "Spartacus". Both were big-budget epics (although of very different types), made in the same year and were massive commercial hits.

Despite being a government-supportive approach, hatamikia has changed his mind. In this movie he tries to elaborate the existing context of Iran.

I did not read any reviews about this film prior to seeing it.In retrospect I should have, as it would have saved me from wasting time on cheap trash.

Immediately after World War 2 and the horrors of the holocaust the British government found itself in a difficult situation. On the one hand, it had promised the Jewish people the right to return to their ancient homeland in Palestine.

Another Orwell inspired world. This kind of film drives me a little mad.

What a movie, drama and almost exciting, based on a true story, Hatami kia well done , Gharibian playing is a MASTERPIECE. Watch this one .
