Good atmosphere, acting, plot.interesting theme.

Buddy Boy has been somewhat forgotten over the years, but it's worthy of a look for art film fans.A stuttering anti-social man named Francis spends his days working at a photo shop and caring for his invalid mother, but when he becomes obsessed with the neighbor he spies across the street, his life begins to make a change for the surreal and nightmarish.

The stutterer Francis (Aidan Gillen) is a lonely religious man that works processing photos and lives with his abusive stepmother Sal (Susan Tyrrell) that is invalid in a gloomy apartment. Francis has a dreadful solitary life and he works, takes care of Sal and goes to the Catholic Church and his relief is his faith in God.

I've not been able to find who this band is playing when buddy boy is at his job and the guy is behind the counter blasting the ghetto blaster. They aren't listed on the credits or on the net.

I know there are not many votes on this film but if there were it certainly would have a higher rating then a 6.0.

I discovered this as i was hunting for Aidan Gillen films, and saw it had decent reviews. I wont go into the plot, as others have already.

A few years ago, Christmas of 2004 to be exact I was sitting down late at night channel surfing when I stopped on IFC to see that they were having some sort of movie marathon and this movie(Buddy Boy) was just beginning so I figured "Why not? There is nothing else on unless I want to watch A Christmas Story for the 32nd time.

Buddy Boy is a psychological thriller on the same scale of Roman Polanski movies. While seeing Buddy Boy it immediately reminded me of a particular Polanski movie, The Tenant.

Buddy Boy is an amazingly twisted and brilliantly written piece. Hanlon is obviously a man possessing exceptional skill and an enviable creative mind.
