I'm a bit perplexed regarding what to say about this movie. First off, I think I enjoyed it more when I saw it years ago than I did now.

At least Lucy in "Mame" had great credits and a star the audience hoped wouldn't disappoint them, but at least she had done on movie musicals before. Perhaps Peter Bogdanovich should have shared writing credit with someone and toned down some of the grating musical performances by big stars who seemed directed to go for big, big, big.

When I watched the "Cinema Snob" do a take on "At Long Last Love", I was expecting one of his classic hatchet jobs...but he was actually rather kind to it.

This film was widely misinterpreted at the time of its release. As the other commentator on this page mentions, Bogdanovich not only used non-professional singers, but the songs were recorded live!

I saw this movie out of pure curiosity, and to be truthfully honest, with the exception of Burt Reynolds, all the main characters in this movie musical including Cybil Sheppard, could actually carry a tune. This movie is not as bad as it is/or was made out to be.

Over the years, I've seen many many musicals, all the classics (from the late twenties to the mid-sixties)and a lot of modern ones. I had never seen "At Long Last Love", which doesn't exist on tape or DVD.

A musical comedy in the style of those 1930's films of yesteryear.A massive flop when released, it would have more of an audience today, musicals were not popular in the 70's, today's audiences seem to like them more.

Granted, this movie is flawed and far from the greatest movie musical of all time, but I do not think it is down there with Xanadu, Can't Stop the Music, Mame, The Wiz and A Chorus Line as among the worst. That said, it is somewhat of a guilty pleasure especially for the music and cast.

Glue footed travesty that makes a mockery of the very films it sets out to honor. Bogdanovich has seemingly no understanding of the genre and even if the cast were better the film would still be deeply flawed.
