In the final inning of the final game, in several close-ups on Pirates pitcher Hellman, the flag behind him is blowing to the left on one pitch, to the right on the next pitch, and back to the left on the next pitch.

When the sign is changed from a bunt to hit-away, the batter singles to left field with a runner on second base.

The pitcher incorrectly runs toward third base instead of home plate to back up the catcher on a play to home plate.

No manager would leave him on base loaded in the ninth at 150 pitches.

Oh how times have changed in the world of baseball. Today we worry about performance enhancing drugs and steroid scandals and players cheating, along with multi-million dollar contracts and ridiculously priced tickets.

I grew up with this movie. I remember loving it as a kid, and, watching it now in 2020, it 100% holds up.

A middling family movie from Disney based on a 1951 original. Danny Glover is the gruff manager of a failing baseball team whose fortunes take a miraculous about-turn after a young fan prays for spiritual intervention in the mistaken belief that their winning the pennant will reunite him with his deadbeat father.

I'm biased because I can relate to Roger. I was in foster homes and prayed plenty of times for God to let my dad get me back.

It's hard to believe that this movie was directed by Clarence Brown, who gave us such masterpieces as Garbo in Anna Karenina, Gable and Shearer in Idiot's Delight, and a very moving adaptation of Faulkner's Intruder in the Dust. Be that as it may, this a a generally flat film, with no real sense of pacing.

Jennifer Paige (Janet Leigh) writes a ladies newspaper column but has been assigned to write about the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are completely incompetent.

Wonderful movie!! One of my personal favorites when I am feeling blue or in the mood for the greatest game in the world-baseball.

This is one of the movies I watched as a kid. Interestingly, during this era the film was made there were a lot of movies which came out with this kind of theme, of a losing team where someone or something helps that team become a winning team.
