He started as a rapper in 1991. His first song, Maganda Ang Piliin (Ayoko Ng Panget) (Pick Someone Beautiful (I Dont Like Ugly)), an answer song to the then hugely popular rap song Humanap Ka Ng Panget (Look for Someone Ugly) by Andrew E. also became a popular hit that launched his showbiz career.

His stage name was derived from two performers that he admires: Michael Jackson and Gary V. It was also customary among Filipino male rappers during the early 1990s to reduce their stage surnames to a single initial, such as Francis M and Andrew E.

Michael V.s first movie appearance was in Regal Films comedy flick, Banana Split top billed by Joey Marquez. But his star shone more brightly when Octo Arts Films started to include him in several comedy flicks that cast him alongside comedians Vic Sotto, Ogie Alcasid, and Francis M.

Has an academic degree on Mass Communications from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

During his early days, he was an extremely shy young man. He was often pessimistic about his life, thinking that he was too dumb to have a future. One day, little did he know that while drunk and singing a certain song, his voice was actually being recorded by his wife.

Known as the Weird Al Yankovic of the Philippines for his parodies and "translations" of popular Filipino and foreign songs. His original songs, such as "Sinaktan Mo Ang Puso Ko" (You Hurt My Heart) is closely similar to Yankovics "You Dont Love Me Anymore".

Michael V., clad in barong tagalog, is on the cover of the September issue of the Readers Digest for its "5th Annual Humor Special." At the bottom of the cover are the words Yari Ka! which is what Michael V. exclaims at the end of every item on Bitoys Funniest Videos, one of his two fun shows (the other is Bubble Gang) on GMA 7.
