Matt Stockalper was born in Dallas, Texas, to registered nurse Margo Stockalper, and Bobby McNeill, a programmer. He has an older sister, Katie, and younger brother, Marcus. As a teenager, he aspired to write and direct plays, but being too young to be taken seriously, he settled for work as a stage actor. He performed for many Dallas Area Theatre companies and studied at Collin Theatre Center in Plano, Texas. Enlisted in the United States Navy in 2007, but soon after was released for medical disqualification. Graduated in 2009 from Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking in Sedona, Arizona.
Is a CrossFit enthusiast.
Has an identifying scar across his right eyebrow.
