Santa Barbara-born Maika Monroe's initial desire was to pursue a career in professional freestyle kiteboarding . Following in her father's footsteps, she started the sport at the age of 13. She moved to the Dominican Republic's north coast of Cabarete in her senior year of high school to train full-time while she completed her studies online. From then on, her athletic path prospered and she received second place in the International Red Bull Air Competition.
Some of her favorite horror films include The Shining , Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street .
Her first paid gig in acting was being in a commercial for Pizza Hut.
Once had her own clothing line called Airbound Apparel while she was training for kiteboarding in the Dominican Republic city of Cabarete, and most of the proceeds went to the local charities. What inspired her to begin the line was the children she had met and become close with while practicing kiteboarding.
She is also a professional kiteboarder.
After seeing her performances in The Guest and It Follows , many fans and film enthusiasts have come to consider Maika a Scream Queen of the current generation, though Maika isnt a fan herself of the label.
Has a major phobia about knives.
I started kiteboarding when I was 13. My dad was a kiteboarder, and I,begged him to teach me until he finally agreed. He made me wait because,it can be dangerous.
Acting is such a crazy industry, but kiteboarding keeps me grounded.
