After getting to know Leni Riefenstahl s cinematographer Guzzi Lantschner during a ski trip, he became his assistant in several projects.
His father was an bank employee, his mother a landlady.
Had two children: Michael, from his wifes first marriage, and Prisca (born in 1960).
Due to his relations to influential politicians, he was able to support the Munich Film Festival and the Bavarian Film Fund.
One of the most successful German film producers after World War II, founding his production company "Roxy Film" in 1951.
